MLA Checklist

 

Directions:  Make sure youÕve done each item correctly.  Use the MLA packet (page numbers in parentheses) to check each item, or go to Diana HackerÕs site (http://www.dianahacker.com/resdoc/p04_c08_o.html)  to look up anything you do not understand.

o              Times New Roman, 12 point, double spaced

o              Correct Heading

o              Pages numbered in upper right corner: Last name #

o              FCAs Ð below heading; before title Ð single spaced, 11 pt.

o              Cite direct quotes, paraphrase and any material derived from an outside source

o              Put citation in parentheses after the material you are citing.

o              Place quotation marks around the quote and the punctuation after the parentheses

o              Punctuate the sentence not the quoted material.

Other:

 

o              Quotes are correctly blended.  Remember to make sure the quote fits correctly into your sentence.  That means making slight changes in content by using brackets and dropping upper case at the beginning of a word in the middle of your sentence unless it is a proper noun.

 

o              Punctuate your sentence not the quote.  Drop end commas, question marks and exclamation points if they are not part of your sentence.

 

o              Punctuate AFTER the parenthetical citation.
