Troy Ð Discussion Questions
Respond to the following questions in paragraph form (5 Ð 10 sentences for each response). Make sure you write in complete sentences and use specific examples from the film and life. Note that some questions have more than one part Ð be sure to answer them thoroughly, explaining any yes or no responses!
Responses must be typed Ð hand in a hard copy and submit to turnitin. Be prepared to discuss in class.
1. Why does Achilles tell Priam heÕs a better king than Agamemnon? What makes a great ruler?
2. ÒEverything is more beautiful because we are doomedÓ (Achilles). What difference does the knowledge of death make to life?
3. ÒMen are haunted by the vastness of eternityÓ (Odysseus, Prologue). How is this perspective seen in the charactersÕ choices?
4. To what extent did the preoccupation of Achilles (and several others) with honor seem contemporary? Or is it an outdated concept from a bygone age?

7. Which of the themes of Troy particularly resonate with todayÕs society?
8. The gods are frequently mentioned in Troy, but are never seen to play an active role. What do you think the film suggests about religious belief and spirituality? Do you agree?
