Beowulf – Part One Assignment

Directions: Choose either A or B.

1. Beowulf’s Resume

Write a resumé for Beowulf. Include name, origin, height, weight, experience, skills, position applied for, keeping in mind the language, values, and opportunities available in his time period.

Guidelines:

• Research how to write an effective resume, and use that information to structure Beowulf’s resume.
• Refer to specific events in Part One of Beowulf when documenting his experience.
• Use at least three kennings in your resume
• 300 – 500 words

2. Grendel’s Obituary

Write an obituary for the monster Grendel. Include biographical information, highlights of his life and achievements, and the circumstances of his death. In writing this obituary, keep in mind the language and values of Grendel’s time period.

Guidelines:

• Research how to write an obituary by looking in the newspaper. You will be writing a long obituary that is more like a biography as opposed to a simple death notice
• Refer to specific events in Part One of Beowulf when gathering information about Grendel’s life and death.
• Use at least three kennings in your resume
• 300 – 500 words
